BART/MUNI/Ferry

For those of you extending your stay or wanting to explore:

San Francisco has a robust metro system called BART, Bay Area Rapid Transit. Bart can be taken directly into San Francisco from SFO airport and runs every 10-15 minutes and takes about 40 minutes. BART can also take you across the bay to Oakland.

MUNI is San Francisco’s bus and local metro lines. MUNI connects with bart up and down Market street and can take you out to the ocean, the Presidio, or Golden Gate Park.

San Francisco also has a robust Ferry system that can take you to north to Sausalito/Larkspur or East to Oakland/Vallejo.

All public transit requires you to obtain a Clipper card and add money to the card. The clipper card can be swiped for entry on all of the above. Clipper cards can be bought in all stations.

Misc. Areas to Note

  • We recommend walking up and down Market Street or the Embarcadero. Generally speaking the areas where our hotels are and the venues are heavily trafficked tourist locations.
  • The area between 5th St. and 8th St. and Mission St. and Turk St. is where most SF services for unhoused people are located. Due to this, you will encounter unhoused folks on the streets.
  • If someone approaches you, let them know you can’t help and just continue walking.
  • Stay on main streets if you’re concerned.
