Description

Giving Black® RVA celebrates Black Philanthropy Month 2021! This event is the 3rd annual celebration highlighting local Black philanthropists and celebrating their rich giving history that generously impacts the whole community.  Black Philanthropy Month (BPM), observed every August, is a global celebration and concerted campaign to elevate African-descent giving. Created by Dr. Jackie Bouvier Copeland and the Pan-African Women’s Philanthropy Network (PAWPNet), BPM launched in 2011 to commemorate the United Nations Year and Decade of People of African Descent.  In 2018, the Community Foundation partnered with SisterFund and Ujima Legacy Fund to host the region’s first Black Philanthropy Month where we were inspired by Dr. Copeland’s vision to elevate Blacks in philanthropy and empowered us to showcase our journey through the launch of the Giving Black study.

Each year we aim to inform, involve, inspire and invest in Black philanthropic leadership to strengthen African-American and African-descent giving in all its forms, for the benefit of our planet, our communities, our organizations, and our lives.  This year’s celebration title: INSPIRE * EDUCATE * ACT. We will honor two Black philanthropic leaders in the region, be inspired by local philanthropists, and learn about the impact of Black philanthropic giving and all who attend will learn ways they too can become active in Richmond’s philanthropic family!
